Apple launch Safari 3 web browser on windows

safari-screenshot-windows-version
One of the best web browsers out there is Apple’s Safari, and since its launch in 2003 it has only been for Apple Macs. Made by Apple to comply with web standards, this sleek little browser with its massive window and faster than Internet Explorer browsing has always been the envy of PC based developers like myself.

Fortunately Apple have come there senses and today they launched Safari 3 public beta for Macs, and the first time on PC Windows XP and Vista!.

The Styling of Safari is much nicer and makes the other browsers look more bulky, the little effects to add bookmarks and feeds are a nice touch. Its the speed that is the main bonus though, it works and displays pages much faster than FireFox (without the add-ons) and IE.

This is one browser to defiantly download and run with FireFox and Opera. Time to throw away Internet Explorer? probally not, but someday we can.

I will be testing and developing on this platform in the future, so updates will be the way.

Download Safari 3 beta for Windows here!.

Strange Scriptaculous and Internet Explorer crash

internet explorer 7 crashes
Recently whilst i was developing a new site for work, i had a bug where any page in the site would crash IE7, now not a great fan of IE (or Microsoft) i didnt think much of it and just thought i would need to reinstall the browser, so i carried on and tested in FireFox.

After a few days one of the other guys at work was having the same problem, opening any one of the pages in Internet Explorer would kill the application. I knew it wasn’t my code or scripts, as they were clean and simple, and i was using the Scriptaculous JavaScript library’s.

After a bit of digging i found out that it was down to the prototype script, and the other developer who was Chinese was running ‘Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary’ and he got the same problem at home with Apple.com. (I borrowed a copy of the dictionary from him, but that’s only because it has most swear words in spoken English and is a great way to vent anger in the office).
internet explorer 7 unenable 3rd party
It was then after a bit of digging around i found that IE allows the dictionary to access the browser, so that you can look up words that are written on the page. Not only is this a stupid thing for IE to allow this app to do, but its also an open door for other applications to gain access to the DOM of the browser, and perhaps grab information you would rather it didnt.

The solution is to stop Internet Explorer from giving all desktop applications any access to the DOM, by unticking the ‘Enable third party browser extensions’ in the Tools > Internet Options > Advanced.

Time is lost…

It has been nearly 3 months since i have last posted, its not out of laziness, its because i have nothing to say or views to post.

As with most things is because of work.

When did i get to the point in my life that everything revolves around work. My social life is on hold, my family that i dont have time to see and most importantly the love i nearly lost. All because of the demands that a job has placed on me.

Is what i do as a job that important?.. No of course not!. I make and control websites, not for my own gain but to make others richer and greedier.

Things will change, things will change soon.. and some people wont like change.
